Whittaker Point
Friday, June 17
Left Homer Smith docks and marina at around 8 AM, right after we got a pump out from Matt. We cruised up to the intracoastal waterway via the shortcut to reenter the ICW. Nice uneventful trip up to Oriental, about 10 miles away. Once we could see Whittaker point marina we called and wait to find out the best way to get into the marina he told us to hug the red buoys by five or 10 feet.
We got to Whitaker point marina at around noon.
The marina is very lovely peaceful, with nice showers, restrooms, Grill, one dollar laundry machine and especially the courtesy car. Not very many boats here in this marina. The people that are here are only here on the weekends. Everyone here has their own car, so we were the only people that used the courtesy car. This Marina is about 6 miles outside of Oriental, and the closest grocery store is miles from the marina.
We got in so early so I called the local salon and asked if I could get my haircut and a pedicure that afternoon. They had room for me at 2:30, so Tom took me in to town in a courtesy car. John changed out 50 amp receptacle on the port side of the boat. That afternoon we just got into the pool and relaxed. That evening the wind picked up from the north and we rock and rolled all night. John got up and put out extra lines and fenders all around the boat. I felt like I could maybe get seasick just being inside the boat tied up to a slip. Glad I didn’t fall out of bed that night.
