Tuesday July 17-Sunday July 22
We left Hastings early in the morning because we knew that we had a way to cruise.  This was our longest distance that we have cruised since we started on the Trent Severn.  We traveled for 48 miles through Rice Lake and some other beautiful parts of the Trent.  Lots of cottages, large homes, small runabouts pulling skiers and tubers, fishing boats, and narrow curvy water ways.  We got to Peterborough around 2:30.
We walked into town to check out the neighborhood.  That evening Prudy and Rick from Rascals Retreat and Rob from Monterey came over a for a drink.  Rob is Canadian and he and Glenda finished the loop this year and are staying at the Peterborough Marina for a month. They are helping other
On Wednesday we went to a farmers market in town.  Afterwards Pam got a haircut while John, Tom and Colletta rode over to the lift lock, lock 21 and lock 20.  That afternoon Tom and Colletta picked up a rental car and drove back to Syracuse for a Doctor’s appointment for his hearing. Wednesday night there was a concert in Del Crary park right next to the marina. The band, Big Wreck, is a very popular Canadian band and over 10,000 people attended.
We went down for a couple of songs, but then we went back on our boat and listened from there.  On Thursday, we rode our bikes to the locks so Pam could see them. The Peterborough lift lock is impressive.
We rode our bikes up to the top and the lock master invited us into the control room and let Pam work the controls and make the welcome announcement over the loudspeaker.  Yup, I actually ran the Peterborough Lock. Very fun!!!
We are in the control room of the Lock
Friday was a shop at Costco, clean boat, laundry, and visit day.  More and more loopers are coming in and it is fun meeting them.  Saturday we went to another Farmers market, then went to a local festival called The Peterborough Pulse downtown
We ate lunch at a Greek Restaurant
After lunch we tried to work on the blog at the local library.  We have been having trouble getting good internet at the marinas so we thought if we went to the library it would be better. NO such LUCK.  We worked on getting internet for 2 hours.  We had met Ann and Bruce, some friends of Mark and Becky Mather that had their boat in Peterborough, and we invited them  over to our boat for dessert and we listened to a much less popular band from the back of the boat. Music was a little different.
