Thursday June 28- Tuesday July 10
We left Belleville around 9:30 and cruised 10 miles to Trent Port Marina in Trenton.
This is considered the gateway to the Trent Severn Waterway. We arrived around 11:30. This marina is considered to be one of the best Marina’s on the loop. Especially in Canada. It is only 3 years old and the staff does a great job in keeping the marina looking beautiful. They have wonderful showers, bathrooms,
boaters lounge and FREE LAUNDRY. They even provide the laundry detergent and dryer sheets. They also sell ice cream at the marina. That afternoon I took advantage of the free laundry. We do have a washer/dryer combo on board, but it is sometimes easier to go to the laundromat and get everything done at once.
There are lots of loopers here. Most of them came here to attend an AGLCA seminar on Friday. Friday we attended the seminar that told us what to expect as we travel through the Trent Severn, the Georgian Bay and the North Channel. Parts of the seminar were good but we were a little confused about the Bay and the Channel.
After the seminar was over there ALGCA sponsored a happy hour and we got a chance to meet some other loopers. Some of the loopers were from Canada so we made arrangements to get together Saturday night around 5:00 and they would help us get a better understanding of where to go to enjoy these beautiful areas.
Saturday the temperature really started to rise and it was really getting hot. The 4 of us took our bikes and rode to the farmer’s market and explored downtown Trent. We rode our bikes out to Lock 1 to watch some boats go through. We took a wrong route and couldn’t get to the lock so Colletta and I turned around while the boys trekked their way through and made to there.
Sunday July 1st is Canada day. This is a day for Canada much like our 4th of July. That we rode our bikes over to the park and enjoyed the Canadian festival. There was a cool car show, entertainment, food and booths for all to enjoy.
That evening we grilled out with Diane, Steve, Eric, Karen, Tom and Colletta.
On Tuesday night we went out to dinner with Karen and Eric, Tom and Colletta, and Steve and Diane on Aurora. They are leaving tomorrow so we wanted one last night to celebrate our time together. We went out for sushi.
Afterwards we went over to visit some friends of friends of Steve and Diane’s. They gave us a great Greek recipe book and some greek spices.
On Wednesday, we celebrated our summer holiday with a dinner on the back of our boat with Greek’s Folly and Tropical Horizons.
We decided to stay at the marina for a week When you pay for a week you pay for 5 days and get 2 days free. While we were here Tom decided that his hearing wasn’t improving and that he should see a specialist so we paid for another week at the marina. On Thursday we rented a car. That night we said good bye to Eric and Karen, our wonderful Harbor hosts. Friday we left the marina at 4 am and drove down to Syracuse. While we were in Syracuse we dropped Tom off at the emergency room and John and I headed over to the Apple store. My IPhone X had been acting up and we needed to replace it since it was only 2 months old. Tom was lucky enough to see a specialist and get a shot in his ear. Hopefully this will help him. He has to come back to Syracuse in two weeks for a check up. After getting prescriptions, groceries and visiting a West Marina store, we came back to Trenton and had a seafood dinner at Capt. George. This is a local chain food restaurant.
While we were in Trenton we also visited the Canadian Air Museum.
We also visited Presqi’ile Provincial Park in Brighton On. This park has camping, beaches, and the 2nd oldest lighthouse in Ontario.
Weed Cutter…
We rode our bikes everywhere. Tom took his bike to a repair shop so he borrowed Eric’s. Looked like a little clown bike.
We had a nice time in Trenton but after almost 2 weeks it was time to move on.
