The Statue Of Liberty and on to Half Moon Bay Marina

The New York Harbor is a very busy place. Tug boats, freighters, barges, tour boats and very large ferries that go through this area. We approached the Statue of Liberty. There was some maneuvering involved in getting in place to get pictures in front of the Lady. We finally got pictures of Greek’s Folly, SeaQuest and Short Vacation with the Lady behind them and some pictures of the New York skyline and we were on our way.
It is so impressive to go through this part of the Hudson River. You are sharing the water with ferries, and other boats, going by sky scrapers and other Manhatten buildings and land marks. Cruising up the Hudson reminded us so much of the Mississippi River. We decided to stop at the Half Moon Bay Marina around 54 miles up river. We got there at 3;45 and proceeded to work on getting the boat ready for special guests. Mike and Sandy Ernsdorff friends of ours from Frentress Lake Marina (our old marina on the Mississippi) came to visit. They were in New York watching one of their grandson’s in a baseball tournament and decided to visit us since they were so close. That night we went out for dinner with them and then Jan and Kent on Follow that Dream (another boat from Frentress Lake came over and visited with them too.

The next day Mike, John and Tom jumped right on SeaQuest to help with a problem that Bruce was having. It all started with a bilge pump that would not work. After a lot of troubleshooting it was determined that his main 8D starting battery was dead (that’s right, so dead that it would only run a tiny bilge pump for about a minute before it died. We used Mike’s car to track down another one.
We had rented a car so that we could get our provisions and go to the Culinary Institute of America. The girls went to the laundromat and the grocery store. That evening we drove 1 and 1 /2 hours to the Institute and ate at the Brew House. There are 6 restaurants at the Institute. This is an interesting experience. The students of the institute are the prep cooks, the chefs, the servers. Besides going to classes they work in 2 different restaurants at the institute for a 6 week rotation at 2 restaurant. We enjoyed talking to our server and other servers about their experiences.
Mike and Sandy were going to cruise with use for a couple of days. The next day Sandy and I got up early and we drove their car and the rental car to Shady Harbor marina about 2 hours north. We dropped off Sandy’s car so that it would be there when we got there in 2 days. We got back to Half Moon Bay, returned the car and jumped on the boat by 11:30.

We cruised with Mike and Sandy for 2 days. Greek’s Folly left earlier with Simpatico and SeaQuest followed us. We rode for about 40 miles and then dropped anchor right outside of Kingston. This was the first time that SeaQuest had ever anchored and we wanted to be there for them in case there were any issues. They did a great job.
