Beaufort, NC and Shackleford Islands
Thursday, June 16 (our friend Marc’s birthday)
Rode our bikes down to the ferry dock and took the ferry over to Shackleford islands. This is supposed to be a great island for finding shells and seeing wild horses. We saw about a half a dozen or more horses and picked up a few pretty shells. You have to go out into the ocean to get the good big ones. There are thousands of little crabs running around the island. It is hard to get close to them and they run in swarms.
We had to stop and have a beer and watch the sportfish boats from the tournament come back into the marina. These captains are good!!! They face backwards and control the shifters and throttles. Take a look at the video below.
Came back and had a burger at Royal James bar and Grill. Took a tour of the Maritime Museum in downtown Beaufort. That afternoon John and I took a nap (A very unusual happening for both of us). Matt had given Tom some large shrimp so we had shrimp and docktails over on Greek’s Folly. That evening John had to work on the electrical receptacle. Our air conditioner quit working and we only had 40 V on one line. John shut off all the power, and investigated with Tom what the problem was. We overloaded the 50 amp cord and overheated one wire in the power cord. We change power cords because we had an extra one on board. John will fix the old power cord later this week-end.
