Saturday and Sunday September 1-2 Hotham Island
Most people who cruise the North Channel have heard about Norm and Elaine in Hotham Island Anchorage. We decided that we needed to meet them. Norm and Elaine were teachers in Illinois and in the summers they would come up to the North Channel on their boat. Hotham anchorage used to be one of their favorite places to anchor. There is a cottage on the island and they became friends with the owners. When the male owner died, his wife asked Norm and Elaine if they wanted to buy the cottage. They bought it and after retiring, they sold their larger boat and live here during the summer and AZ during the winter. They come out to boats anchored here and invite boaters over to their cottage for docktails. The first night that we were there, they had company and so we only went over second night.

This was our last night with Greek’s Folly for a while so we played games and drank and had a loud and good time. Everyone came over to our boat for a cook out. Greek’s Folly had to get back into the US for a family wedding. The weather is always unpredictable so they needed to make sure to leave with a few days of weather delay built into their schedule. Not to mention that they had a lot of open water of the North Channel to cross, as well as, Lake Huron to get to Mackinaw City, Michigan.
Here are some pictures of the reflections of the boats on the calm water at this anchorage.
On Sunday, Greek’s folly left us and Short Vacation and Aurora took the dinghies out for a cruise. This is a very nice area and quite a few places to anchor.
We found out that Norm, Elaine, Diane and Pam were all graduates and alumni of NIU, Northern Illinois University. Diane brought our her sweat shirt from there.
