Leaving Charleston
Tuesday, June 7
Left the marina around 10:15 AM at slack water. We had a dock hand give us and Greek’s Folly a hand getting out of the slip because of wind and a little bit of current. Cruised passed Charlestown with windy weather. There are a lot of big ships that come in and out of Charleston.
This is the cruise ship Carnival’s Ecstasy. John and I took a 3 day cruise on this ship around 1991 with Bob, my brother, who was selling cruises at the time. It brand new at the time and only her second voyage.
BIG ships that cruise faster than we do. The upper left picture shows Greek’s Folly and a freighter.
Greek’s Folly was leading the way and they came upon a paddle boarder that was trying to fight the headwind. Tom and Colletta stopped and picked the paddle boarder up and put him and his paddle board on their boat for about 15 miles.
They dropped him off near McClellenville. We ran into some shallow water along this passageway. Make sure that you do this route in high or rising tide. Between Charleston to McClellenville going north. We anchored out that night at Sylvan Shores on the Stono River. Nice Anchorage. John went out late at night with his special flashlight and saw alligator eyes shining on the shore. Tom saw three alligators as they left the anchorage in the morning. Not a place that we would like to get into the water!!!!!!
