Isle of Hope/Savannah GA.

May 26-31

Isle of Hope is around a 15 minutes drive to the downtown hub of Savannah.  We drove the van into town and we took the Old Savannah trolley and toured around all the historical district of Savannah, Georgia.  It is a beautiful city with lots of history and beautiful architectural homes and buildings.  Towards the end of the tour we jumped off and had lunch at Vic’s on the River.  We walked on River Street and stopped at shops all along the way.  On River Street you can walk around with a drink in your hand as long as it is in a cup.  It was a little early for drink, so we just watched others carry them around.

Freighter going right past River Street the Savannah. Huge and impressive.

On Saturday we drove over to Tybee Island.  The weather was pretty rainy and overcast.  We went to the beach  and visited the Light house on the Island.

Afterwards we stopped at a bar and restaurant called Huc-A-Poos.  Really crazy place with a sails from sail boats covering the beer garden/out door patio.  Thank God for the sails as they kept us semi dry as the rain came down. Great pizza and at a really good price.  This place is a favorite with the locals and we can see why.

Colonial Park Cemetery where the Confederate soldiers from the Civil war camped out. They were so bored that they changed dates and information on the gravestones.

On Monday, we rented a car from Enterprise and we shuttled our car to John’s Island, right next to Charleston. Brenda and Glenn Young, (friends of Mark and Becky) some fellow boaters and gold loopers, volunteered to keep our van at their home for a few days while we brought the boat up to Charleston.   It was so great to meet them and see their beautiful home.  These people didn’t even know us and they were willing to help us out.  We are truly blessed to have met them.  We have found the boating community friendly, kind and giving.  We brought the rental car back to Savannah and went to the store to provision up for the next few days until we get to Charleston.
