Fairlee Creek Anchorage
Friday, August 5-Sunday, August 7
Left Baltimore around 11:00 AM. Cruised over to a place that our water taxi captain in Charleston told us about, Fairlee creek. It’s not far off the Cheaspeake, but getting in is a little tricky. You have a very narrow entrance channel and just before you enter this vast opening you have to make a sharp right turn and speed up because there is a very strong current ripping across this VERY NARROW chute. As we were cruising in there were people sitting out at the entrance on the beach cheering this through. They were telling us to turn and punch it. Some of the people that were on the beach had been slip neighbors of Tom and Colletta’s when we were in Baltimore so they were excited to see us come in and wanted to cheer us through.
Once inside there is a huge Marina and tons of room to anchor. The Active Captain says that it is shallow here, but we took our dinghy around and found depths to be at least 6-7 feet. On Saturday, there were at least 45 boats anchored here. Most of them were small boats rafted together for the day, but still a lot of boats. We anchored pretty much across from the Jellyfish Joel’s tiki bar, but we could have gone up the creek farther. Jellyfish Joel’s had quite a crowd there on Saturday with a band playing.
Today is Coletta’s birthday. Took a dinghy ride up the spa Creek to check things out. Motor on the Dinghy gave us some trouble sometime had to tell us back to our boat. In The morning we cleaned the black marks off the boat and floated off the back of the boat for quite a while. We went over to Tom and Colletta’s boat for dinner that night and to celebrate her birthday. Rainstorm came in but very quickly it was gone.
If we thought there was a lot of boats on Saturday we were not prepared for Sunday. John counted over 100 boats anchored and enjoying the creek. We took our dinghies over to the island and sat and watched as all the boats came in. Later in the afternoon we floated off the back of Tom and Colletta’s boat. John loves this Anchorage. He says it’s the best place we’ve been on the whole Chesapeake Bay, possibly the whole trip so far.We will definitely be back here again.
