Church on the Bay
Sunday, June 19
We woke up this morning to find that a sailboat that had been in a slip behind us had sunk in the night. It was sad to see this boat just sitting on the bottom. We found out later that the gentleman that owned the boat lived in Oriental and had no insurance on it.
We took the courtesy car into Oriental and went to the 8:30 Methodist church service that is held at the Lou Mac park. We had to bring her own lawn chairs. It was enlightening to have church out in the open air. The topic for the sermon today was Jonah and the whale. Towards the end of the sermon a bunch of dolphins started swimming and surfacing right behind the pastor. The irony of this was not wasted on us. That afternoon John helped Tom put in some 12 V receptacles and run a few electrical outlet to his upper helm. He is planning to purchase a portable freezer to help store food. We love our freezer on our back deck. That evening we swam in the pool and then we cooked steaks on the grill under the captain’s lounge. The dock hand and that lives at the marina, Robert, joined us for dinner. We had the Marina all to ourselves because almost everyone who has a boat here went home after the week-end. Except for the rocking and rolling the first night here, this has been a very pleasant Marina.
