Cape May

We finally left Delaware City at 7:05 in the morning. It is a very narrow channel with current flowing in one direction or the other. Tim (the owner of the marina) comes out every morning (before the sun comes up) and helps people off off the dock in the correct way and correct order. Some boats have to be spun around using the current.
Greek’s Folly and SeaQuest
We had a great cruise down the Delaware Bay because we had chosen the correct day and time. This bay can be a little rough if you don’t watch the currents and the wind. We left with the currents running with us so we gained quite a bit of time and speed as we made our way to Cape May.

We arrived at Cape May around 2 o’clock after having cruised almost 62 miles. We slipped our boat at the marina called Jersey shores. We can feel the pain of having to pay eastern shore prices for marina slips. $2.95 a foot seemed a little expensive, but it was the only marina we could get into. This marina has a very strong current running through it. Greek’s Folly went into the marina first and we waited a long time for them to call us and tell us that the marina was ready for us. It took John and Tom 4 attempts to back into their slips. John has really become wonderful at getting into slips and this was a little strange for him. However, in their defense, there was a 80 foot yacht sitting right in front of our slips that left barely enough room to pivot the boat into the slip. To make matters worse, the current was 90 degrees to the slip. Add to that, our slip was just a hundred feet or so from a crosyouns dock that blocked the way and the current was pushing us toward it. As soon as we got the boat to the end of the slip two guys requested permission to board the boat to assist. Colletta yelled out to Pam to let them board. The current was so strong that it took these two young guys to pull the bow of our boat over close enough to tie to rings on a piling.
We are now traveling with SeaQuest too. They went back to Iowa for a while and now they are back on the loop. We knew that Bruce is new to his boat so we warned him about the current and we were all ready to help him into his slip, but he was the only one that had no trouble. Go figure, single engine with a bow thruster.
Cape May is a cute little town with lots of Victorian houses and a fun downtown area. In the downtown area all the streets are blocked off so it’s only a walking boulevard. We rode our bikes all around after we had visited downtown and checked out some of the beautiful homes along the beach. We ran into our friends from Sanctuary and some other boaters that they are traveling with.
