Atlantic Yacht Basin

Saturday, June 25

Left Coinjock Marina at around 9 AM.  We were sardined in between two boats bow and stern.   The dock hand helped us out by untying the stern line then untying the bow line and letting our bow drift out, he released the spring line last and we were pushed out into the channel.  Seemed like it was going to be difficult to do but it was quite easy. We are learning new things all the time. Very windy day today with winds up to 25 miles an hour.  We had to cross a big open stretch of water and were exposed to bigger waves. Spray from one of the waves came over our bow on the starboard side and splashed a little into our open side door into the cabin. Cooler today with temperatures only around 72°. As we traveled through the Virginia cut we had to go through a narrow bridge.  A barge had hit one side of the bridge so it was broken and couldn’t open all the way.

Got to Atlantic Yacht Basin at around 3 o’clock. Pumped out and moved to our slip behind another DeFever. This place is interesting.  It looks like a lot of people get work done here and other store their boats here for quite a long time.

The walk into the town of Chesapeake takes about 10 minutes.   John and I cleaned the boat and then want to the local Mexican restaurant. This restaurant was right beside a Dairy Queen.  Tom and John have been looking everywhere for Dairy Queens along the way.  Since they weren’t with us,  John got an Ice cream cake and put Tom and Colette’s picture on the cake. We will surprise them when we meet up with them in Portsmouth.
