AGLCA Rendezvous
Tuesday, April 18 -Monday May 1
We left Homer Smith’s around 8AM and cruised 44.5 miles to New Bern. It was a little choppy on the Neuse river, but once we turned left and headed up to New Bern the water calmed down. We came to New Bern for the AGLCA (American Great Loop Cruisers Association) rendezvous. This is the group that we belong to and all of the members of this association are doing the loop, have done the loop, or are planning to do the loop.
New Bern is a cute little town with lots of fun things to do. We got here a little before the rendezvous started so we had time to do things. Becky and I walked through the town doing a little shopping, we ate at some good restaurants, and got to meet a lot of new people.
These Statues Are All Over New Bern
The day before the rendezvous began the girls all went out and got pedicures.
We had docktails on the back of our boat.
The rendezvous was very educational, and fun. It was great to get back together with Tom and Colletta, Mark and Becky and to meet a lot of the new loopers. Our friends, Tom and Colletta, from Greeks Folly stayed on our boat for the rendezvous, so we had to prep the boat for more people on board since we have not had any guests since October. Their boat was up in Deltaville having work done on it, so they traveled by car down to New Bern to attend the rendezvous.
Everybody does the loop their own way. Some people do it in one year, some take many many years to do it. John and I have decided that we want to really experience it so we have decided to put our boat up in heated storage this winter in Brewerton, New York so that we can take our time going through Canada. Most people say that Canada is the best part of the entire loop and we don’t want to rush it. We’re not sure what we’re going to be doing this winter, or where we will be staying, but I know that I want to work on getting some medical things done. My Baker cyst has prevented me from walking as much as I would like, and because I favor that right knee my hip is starting to hurt a lot.
About 250 people here for the Rendezvous
A bunch of us went out to dinner the last night.
After the rendezvous , John worked on boat projects. When I complain that all he ever does is work on the boat, he keeps telling me “It’s a boat, there is always work to be done on a boat”. This is true and I really do appreciate that he is able to do the work because otherwise it would cost us a fortune to have this boat.
