Today we cruised farther than we have for a while. After we left Parry Sound, we decided to use a unique pass called Hole in the Wall. You can see it from a great distance by the white circle painted on the rock. Of course, the excursion boats take their passengers thru this passage everyday.
Greek’s Folly entering the Hole in the Wall.
Short Vacation entering the Hole in the Wall
You can’t really see it from here but there a person hanging from this cliff. I suspect that the excursion boat pays someone to do this when they pass thru.
Must be part of the Hole in the Wall Gang…
We traveled 31 miles to Hopewell Bay anchorage. Nice quite anchorage.
The next day we traveled 32.5 miles by a weird looking house. With all the beautiful scenery, why would you build a house with so few windows.
We anchored in Hopewell Anchorage for the night. John had the grill going…
We left this anchorage and headed toward Hangdog Channel and ultimately Wrights Marina in Britt.
Breakfast for the Captain on the upper helm as we travel along…
Hangdog Channel.
Yes, there are a lot of rocks to maneuver around. The channels are marked but you do come very close to the edges. The guide books also tell you not to go thru Hangdog Channel if the lake is up and the wind is blowing because it is too easy to be blown out of the channel or hit the rocks.
The screenshot of our InReach track below shows a approximated route thru Hangdog. It looks like we have gone over rocks but that is due to the standardized time frame when the InReach device uploads our position to the satellite. The system draws a straight line between the dots. When in fact, we wound our way around the islands and submerged rocks. But you get the idea – there are a lot of islands and rocks. We could have taken the straight route staying out in open water.
Here is an example of how close the red and green markers can be and notice
These guys are just part of the beautiful scenery.
A number of weeks later, while talking with seasoned Canadian cruisers, they kept throwing out names of places we should have visited. When we kept saying yes, we did that over and over they were kind of stunned. Most Loopers have to keep moving and can’t see all of those spots. They were especially surprised when they mentioned Hangdog Channel and we told them that we did it. Short Vacation and Greek’s Folly got some major kudos and respect from these Canadians for taking that route.
We wound our way back to Wright’s marina in Britt.
We were talking to the marina on the radio for our slip assignment and they told us that they wanted us to dock sideways in front of the blue house on the wall.
Yep, they put us on the wall by the fuel dock and pump out station.
We got in there but you can see it is really tight both in front of and behind us. I keep saying that
“Every Day Is An Adventure!”
Captain John did an excellent job getting us in to our slip sideways. We borrowed the courtesy car and drove over to St Armand marina for a late lunch. There is really not much in Britt and it was a quick overnight with power, fuel and propane for the grill. It was just as much fun trying to get out boat out of this spot when we were departing. We don’t have thrusters.
