Tuesday July 24-Thursday July 26 Bobcaygeon and Fenalon Falls

Tuesday July 24-Thursday July  26. Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls
We left Lakefield early morning heading to Bobcaygeon.  We had 40 miles and 4 locks to go through.  This section of the Trent is lovely with small cottages dotting the banks of the water.  This is also the start of the busy section.  They tell you not to travel through this part on weekends because there are so many boats here. This is also the section that is the start of  “houseboat rentals” or as John lovingly call them “ ricochet rentals”.  They advise boaters to let the houseboats into the locks first and once they are tied on the lock walls then you should enter.
We made it through these remote locks and ask the lock master at Buckhorn lock to call up to the Bobcaygeon lock to see if there was any space available for our two 44 ft boats on the wall.  The answer was definitely no on the wall with electric power pedestals but the side with no power had small boats that were coming and going so by the time we get there things could change on that side.  We cruised through a long narrow passage into the town.  Greek’s Folly went in first and found space enough for his boat.  He talked to boats around him and closed the space between them and made room for us too.  Unfortunately it was on the south side where there was NO electricity.
Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls are two of the towns that people say you shouldn’t miss on the Trent. They both have walls that you can tie up to that have electric pedestals that we can plug into.  At most of the other walls at the locks we have to use our generator if we need electricity.  For the first night we used our generator but the next morning some boats on the north wall left so we moved over and got power for our 2nd night stay.
This is another Defever that we met.
We pretty much did the normal thing here in town, walk through the town and see what is there.  This little town is known for a big shoe store named Bigleys.  Not cheap but good quality shoes.  Of course I found a pair that I couldn’t resist, and I made John buy a pair too.
On the second night John, Tom and Colletta walked to the Kawartha ice cream factory so the boys could get their ice cream fix satisfied.
On Thursday we moved 16 miles to the little town of Fenelon Falls. We got through the lock and found lots of room on the wall and were able to plug in to one of the pedestals.  We have already payed for the mooring pass so we can stay on the walls but we did have to pay $9.70 extra for getting power at each place.  Fenelon Falls is full of cute little shops that we had to explore.  That evening we walked, in the rain, to a Texas Burgers for dinner.

We make it a point to pull boats up tight to each other to get more people in for the night. Most people won’t do this.

A Big Ricochet Rental coming out of the lock.

Apparently, Tom said something that Colletta didn’t agree with.
