Montreal Yacht Club
Wednesday, July 12
Left our Anchorage at around 7:30 AM and arrived at the Montreal Yacht Club at around 1:50 p.m. There is a huge current as you get close to the yacht club. One minute we were going 7 miles an hour and the next we’re going 2 miles an hour at 2100 rpm. We were advised by some people in Quebec that we should hug the green buoys just before the main bridge for less current as we head up to the marina.
We finally got upstream enough to angle over to the marina breakwater and enter the yacht club. It was just like canoeing in whitewater. We just put the bow at an angle to the current and sort of “surfed” over to the other side of the river.
Even though we called the yacht club and gave them our boat dimensions a couple of times they screwed up. They tried to put our two big boats on a dock that wasn’t big enough for both. Tom had to tell these guys that Short Vacation was definitely not going to fit on this dock. Meanwhile, we are holding position in a narrow fairway with wind pushing us around. John ended up having to back down the fairway and find a place that was big enough to turn around. Bonnie was worried because we got very close to a concrete wall. We ended up being on one end of the marina and Greek’s Folly ended up being on the other end of the marina. Very large marina. That afternoon we walked into town to explore and get our bearings to where things are.
Let’s see. Did I mention the stiff current?
Had to go sightseeing
