Canada Bound

We left the quiet Anchorage at Isle La Motte around 10 o’clock. Traveled up a short distance and went through Canadian customs. I was really worried about fruits, vegetables, liquor, anything that they may find if they boarded our boat. You are only allowed a certain of liquor and no fruits or vegetables but this is a very hard thing to accomplish if you are living aboard the boat. Plus, I had Bob and Bonnie coming to stay with us so we needed a little more provisions than we would have just for the 2 of us. Going through customs couldn’t have been easier. We pulled up to the dock, the gentleman asked for our passports and ask us how much liquor we had on board and if we had any weapons. We answered the questions they told us to have a nice day and we were on our way. Thank you Canada for not making this hard situation.
We traveled on and get about 30 miles that day and came to a little town called Saint Jean and stayed at the marina called Marina la Nautique. We had decided to stay here for a few days because this is Canada’s independence celebration weekend and we didn’t want to be on the water this holiday week-end. Canada Day is July 1 and we wanted to be somewhere to help celebrate that. The marina was run by nice young boys and they weren’t really sure where they wanted to put both of our boat. They tried to put us beside each other but the docks weren’t wide enough for our two big boats so we ended being put on the face dock. As we are docking we could hear the band practicing for the festival that was taking place in a park right alongside the marina.
That night we went into town and had a true Canadian meal of Poutine. Poutine is a meal of french fries covered in gravy with different kinds of meats on top. If we ate these very much we would need a heart doctor and have our arteries cleaned out once a year.
We stayed here Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Much like the rest of our time that we’ve had up north there was a lot of rain and very cool weather.
We walked around and explored the town, went to the park and enjoyed the festival with music in English and French,
We rode our bikes down the canal to see what we would be cruising through on Monday, did laundry went to the grocery store and watched a very nice fireworks display on the back of another loopers boat called Destinations???.
The people here were very friendly and most of them spoke English.
