Barefoot Landing Marina
Wednesday, April 12 through Thursday, April 13
We left Isle of Palm around 9 o’clock and arrive in Anchorage called Butler Island East at 5 PM after a 61.3 mile cruise. The next morning we left the Anchorage at around 8:15 AM. We traveled through the Waccamaw river. Beautiful deep water to cruise through. Lots of wildlife and some interesting anchorages just off the waterway. We went by Sandy island, an island that is surrounded by water. The students have to be ferried on a bus ferry to the mainland to be able to go to school. I wish we had more time so we could stop to visit this island. Then, we had to go thru the infamous “Rock Pile”. This is a extremely narrow section if the ICW that was blasted out of solid rock.
At high water you would not even know they are there. This area has beautiful homes too.
We arrived at Barefoot Landing Marina at 1:25 PM. Last year when we stayed in Myrtle Beach, we stayed on the other side of the waterway at Barefoot Marina. This year we decide to stay on the side closest to the shopping area. There was a pirate ship tour boat just in front of us, and lots of kids wearing eyepatchs, carrying swords and sporting bandannas around their heads came for a pirate ride. That evening Andy and Julie from Fruitcakes came over to our boat and we went to Flying Fish for dinner with them. It was so good to see them again. They sold their boat to a couple name Bruce and Beverly who renamed the boat SeaQuest. I hope we don’t lose touch with Julie and Andy, we so enjoy their company.
