Yorktown
Sunday, July 3
Today we visited Yorktown. Right after John turned 62, we each purchased a Federal park pass for seniors for $10. We visited the Yorktown Federal visitors center and got in free with our passes. Sometimes it pays to be old.
I loved Yorktown. The end of the revolutionary war, the battlefields, the homes really were interesting. It was especially appropriate that we were there during Independence Day week-end. This is where we really secured our independence from the Brits. On October 19, 1781 British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered almost 8,000 British soldiers and seamen to French and American force at Yorktown Virginia, bringing the Revolutionary War to a close.
We watched videos, toured the battlefields, and were surrounded by weapons that were used during that time.

Our tour guide showing us weapons used during the Revolutionary war. Such an interesting place. It was a rainy warm day but we really enjoyed this place.
