Deltaville

Saturday July 9-Thursday July 14
We enjoyed our stay in Deltaville.  We rode our bikes into town for shopping and lunch at Table.   There is the greatest TruValue hardware store here called Hurds.  Their motto is “if we don’t have it, you don’t need it”. John and I both love this little store and spent a lot of time at it.  On Sunday we rode our bikes to the park near us for a Baptist church service in a park, and then rode our bikes about 3 miles into town for breakfast at Patti’s Cafe.

We had to take our own chairs to the church service so we used our Travoy to carry them.  It worked great.   On Monday morning, Tom and Colletta came over and picked us up with their friends car and we drove into Kilmarnock. The girls did a little shopping downtown while the boys went to American Diesel.  For my birthday, Coletta gave me a very nice plaque that says ‘Home is where the boat is’. Love it!

Claude and Peggy came in Monday afternoon and after a dip in the pool, we took the car over to a local barbecue place for dinner.

Claude left Tuesday afternoon to go to Richmond and umpire at a softball tournament and for the rest of the week Peggy, John and I went to the pool, rode bikes downtown again, had a docktails gathering with the people at Dozier’s and just enjoyed each other’s company.  We decided that we should have a docktail party on Wednesday night so went around to boaters that were there and asked them to join us.   For my birthday on Thursday, July 14, Peggy made a blueberry cobbler and a wonderful meatloaf dinner and gave me some great presents

We met a really sweet young couple (Brian and Kendall McGlynn), who are going to live on their 52 foot catamaran sailboat with their three children for the next two years. Brian has taken a sabbatical from teaching at Duke University.  The children were at camp the week that we were at Doziers, so we got a chance to enjoy Brian and Kendall’s company in the pool and on their boat.  They gave me a really nice birthday present of some sangria wine. We wanted to take Peggy out and anchor out somewhere, but the weather was so hot we felt we needed to be in a marina and plugged in for air-conditioning.
