Mara Beel Heads To St. Mary’s Boat Yard

Saturday, May 21
John and Mark left Fernindina Beach Marina on Mara Beel at around 7:15 AM. After a early morning pump out they took the boat over to Saint Mary’s boat services to be hauled out for the summer. This boatyard is in Georgia and it is in a good location for his insurance because it seems to be out of hurricane paths.   Mark had to enter the St. Mary’s River and travel around a curvy route avoiding shallow areas that were marked on a handout from the marina that was printed from the internet. They called the boat yard guy when they were insight and he told them to hug the docks on the way to the lift station. It was very tight and there was a island just adjacent to the lift.

Oh yeah, and they had to show up at high tide because it was too shallow otherwise. When the tide went out there was mud showing everywhere. Mark did a great job of getting the boat into the lift.

This boat is sitting in the mud after the tide went out. Tides can drop 6-8 feet in Georgia.

Becky and Pam drove to Marina at Ortega landing to pick up our van and then came over to St. Mary’s and met with the guys as they prepped the boat for summer storage.  That evening Craig and Barb from Blue Heron came over to our boat and ate dinner with us.
