Life At The Fort Myers City Yacht Basin
We thoroughly enjoyed spending half of January, February and March in Fort Myers. Our marina, Fort Myers City Yacht Basin, is located in the heart of the historic district.
Since we drove our vans down to Florida, we were able to keep the Honda right here at the marina. We paid $45 a month for a parking space close to the marine. We had a Farmers Market just a few blocks away every Thursday morning, and a Publix grocery store 1 mile away. We had a great downtown area with quaint shops and restaurants within walking distance. We saw lots of beautiful sunsets and sunrises here in Florida (We don’t see many sunrises since we like to sleep in). Most of these pictures were taken off our back deck in Fort Myers. What a great view! We were out on A dock and our back door was Caloosahatchee River and it was wonderful.
My favorite sunset picture.
Once a month the Yacht Basin would have a Cook-out night where our Dockmaster Leif would cook burgers and hotdogs and people on the dock would bring a dish to pass and get a chance to meet each other and socialize.
While we were there we had to sell some things
John was sick for over 5 weeks. He had a lung infection and they had to put him on steroids, and give him an antibiotic. He’s lost about 20 lbs. over the winter working so hard everyday on the boat.
We went to some fun Festivals that they had within walking distance.
We attended a chart review to help inform us about what to expect as we travel North this Spring and Summer. It was held at Legacy Harbor and was given by Robert Creech. We meet some other people that will be traveling up North this winter and made some new friends.
We ate at some good restaurants.
We went shopping for things that we needed on the boat.
Spent a LOT of time and money at West Marine
Enjoyed meals and docktails with our good friends Mark and Becky Mather on our boat and on their boat, Mara Beel.
John Scott visits Mark and Becky. John went with them on their trip down to the Keys.
We met LOTS of new people and had lots of good times at Docktails and dinners.
But mostly we just got familiar with and enjoyed our new home — our boat–OUR SHORT VACATION!
