Waterman’s Rodeo
Sunday, August 28
In the morning, Tom and Pam went to a local produce stand that Sue and Niles, people that have a sailboat at the marina, drove us to. Good produce but a little expensive. Around 11 o’clock we got seats for the boat docking that was happening at the marina. They also call this the Waterman’s rodeo. This was our first time we had ever seen any like this and it was quite interesting. The woman that I had met at the beauty shop’s son Hayden Wilson 13 years old, took first place in the kids category. Boat docking is quite a Chesapeake event. Guys pull their boat into a starting gate and when the horn blows, they maneuver their boats around to backup into a space that has 4 poles that they have to throw these hoop type ropes over the poles while they are being timed. It was a lot of fun to watch and talk to the locals that have family participating in the competition. What a hoot. This was a fund raiser for the local fire department. After the awards ceremony and sitting on the back of our boat watching all the boat leave our Marina we went back to the pool. Only in the Chesapeake!
